Medical Report on Kehinde Babaniyi (33 years/male)
The above named patient presented at the accident and emergency unit of our facility about 5
months ago due to right lumbo-abdominal pain of sudden onset. The pain lasted about 10 hours and
eventually subsided after being managed with medication and bed rest. Physical examination and
investigation revealed right renal colic due to right hydronephrosis and hydroureter. Patient refers to have
been presenting some pain, intermittently within the last 4 months.
After being reviewed at the general outpatient department, he was referred to the Urology unit where
several urological investigations were carried out to confirm the presence of right hydronephrosis and
hydroureter due to right ureteric stone. General measures and conservative management with medication
were prescribed for a period of 2 months. Symptoms still persist at the moment and recent investigations
confirm the persistence of right ureteric stone. For this reason, it is established that conservative
management has failed.
Patient has been counseled and advised that surgery (Ureteroscopy plus lithotripsy) remains the gold
standard treatment for this pathology after being established that conservative management has failed. It is
important to note that chronic persistence of hydronephrosis and hydroureter can cause a permanent and
irreversible damage to the kidney of the affected urinary tract. This report is being issued at the request of
the patient.
