CONDITIONAL SENTENCE
Conditional sentence is used to express possible or imaginary situations. There are several types
of conditional sentences. Two of which are:
Conditional Sentence Type Zero
This type of conditional sentence describes facts, a generally known truth, events and also things that
always true. Therefore, it is often used to describe scientific facts.
The pattern: Simple Present + conditional clause.
Example:
A massive blood transfusion is needed when someone is in shock due to rapid blood loss.
You need a blood transfusion if you suffer anemia with active bleeding.
Conditional Sentence Type One
This type of conditional describe possible future actions or situation.
The pattern: Future tense + Conditional If
Example:
You will need a lot of blood if you are bleeding heavily.
If your body is missing one or more component of a healthy blood, a transfusion will help to
supply what is missing in your body.
Complete these sentences using the Zero or First Conditional.
1. If you have a clot in your vein, you ________ (need) to do the treatment.
2. When you press this button, the nurse ________ (come) immediately.
3. Your pain ________ (stop), if you drink this aspirin.
4. When your body temperature is higher than 38.3 C for three weeks, it ________ (mean) you suffer fever
