The light that is absorbed is

used in a process called

photosynthesis. In the chemical

process of photosynthesis,

carbon dioxide and water

combine and are activated by

light energy to produce both

sugar and oxygen. The oxygen

is released back into the

atmosphere and the sugar is

used by the tree to grow.
