From that day forward, whenever the

old man went back into the woods

and cut bamboos, he found nuggets

of gold inside the stalks. Very soon,

he became very rich. He was no

longer a poor bamboo cutter; he was

now a wealthy man with a big house.

Just as his riches and house grew

bigger and bigger, Kaguya-hime also

grew into a beautiful young woman.

At first, the old man and his wife tried

to keep Kaguya-hime a secret, but

word of her beauty spread quickly.
