During this era, the political climate
in Jamaica was very heated and
hostile, and the people working class
was suffering greatly. Bob wanted to
write songs about these conditions.
He wanted to make political
statements and for The Wailers to be
a voice for those who felt they were
not being heard. He remembered the
living conditions of his old home in
Trenchtown and thought that music
was a good way to highlight it.
