However, Shan would not greet
the people in the village
because he believed that not
greeting meant greeting and
greeting meant not greeting.
The villagers were used to Shan’s
arrogance, so they stopped
trying to greet Shan every
morning or recommending him
new things from the village.
After spending his day walking
near the river and picking up
berries, Shan would go back to
his monastery up on the
mountain.
