A tic is an involuntary habit

or spasm that occurs suddenly

and without a purpose.

Usually tics tend to be either

motor tics or vocal tics.

The latter describes sounds

such as grunts or throat

clearing while the former

might describe things such as

excessive blinking, sporadic

grimaces, or rapid limb

movements.
