The British recruited Gurkha soldiers
for World Wars. Over 200,000
Gurkha soldiers fought for British
force in World War I (1914 – 1918)
and over 250,000 in World War II
(1939 – 1945).
In times past, 250,000 was a big
fraction of total Nepalese
population that Nepal willingly gave
in the name of the Treaty. It was
mandatory for at least one person
from each family join the Gurkha
army.
