The physical environment of the school is accommodating for learners with
different abilities. The school has sufficient learning facilities, in the
classroom there is enough furniture to accommodate all the learners and the
school is also very well kept and maintained, there are no classes with
broken windows or doors.
The school has a few classes that are technologically advanced, these
classes have white boards and smart boards. As we know that learners have
different learning styles, the smart board makes teaching and learning very
easy because it allows the use of different approaches to teaching. It
accommodates the visual and auditory learners because they can actually
see what they are learning about. The challenge that this school faces is that
there are a lot of break-ins that take place during the year as a result, as lot
of classes are still without smart and white boards.
When it comes to the management, the school seems to be struggling a lot.
Firstly, the people who work at the reception desk seem to lack the skills
needed in order to work with people. The teachers themselves seem to lack
time management skills, they do not come early to work and they often arrive
late to school. There seem to be no strict rules or repercussions for the
teachers themselves, this indicates a lack of leadership from the principal of
the school. Late coming and absenteeism is a problem that most public
schools face because it reflects badly on the school and it also reflects in the
performance of the learners. There seem to be no strict rules from
management with regards to late coming. When learners come to school
late, the principal confiscates their bags and instructs them to come with a
parent or guardian who can account for the child. Now the problem with this
method of discipline is that is impacts teaching and learning negatively.
