77% = $2.5 BILLION OF OUR TOTAL SUBCONTRACTOR SPEND SINCE 2006 HAS GONE TO SMBS.
In 2019, Corvias continued its tradition of supporting small, local and minority-owned businesses, with 77 percent of our total subcontractor spend going to these businesses for a total of $2.5 billion.
In fact, for our partnership with North Carolina Central University, Corvias is using the highest concentration of minority and black women-owned enterprises (MBWE) as subcontractors of any construction project in the entire state.
Through its Mentor Protégé Program (MPP), the Clean Water Partnership has trained and mentored more than 25 local firms to better position them to bid for future municipal contracts. Training includes not only technical skills, but also general business practices (e.g. budgeting, scheduling) to ensure these businesses are positioned for growth. Nearly $18 million has been awarded to MBWEs taking part in the MPP.
After Grace Management & Construction graduated from the MPP, it became a certified Prince George’s County small, minority
and women-owned business. Once Grace Management graduated and moved into its first contract, owner Chris Williams expressed an interest in growing into a general contractor, which his mentor enabled. With the support of the CWP team, Grace served as the general contractor for micro-bio retention structure project.
