Three-strand plait sinnet
Sinnet is basically rope made from two or more
strands of cord which can be tied together in various
different ways. Pacific islanders have used it for
thousands of years, and it was popular on fishing
boats due to its excellent hard-wearing character.
Nowadays, it features more often in the decorative
crafts, including making lanyards, necklaces,
keyrings and bracelets.
1 Take four lengths of cord and seize them together at one end. One
strand will form the foundation, while the others will make the plaits.
