Improvised pulley

If you need to lift something heavy (maybe to

hang a solar shower, or simply to keep your rucksack
clear of ants) and haven’t got a pulley to hand, this

instant tackle provides some useful mechanical
advantage.

1 Tie an overhand loop, then throw one end of the line over a convenient

branch and hang the loop at the desired height. To reduce friction, hook a
carabiner through the loop.
