Double wall knot
According to Darcy Lever in his 1808 book The
Sheet Anchor, the double wall was ‘tied in the ends of
topgallant braces, to button in the clews of
topgallant sails.’ And if it’s good enough for the
topgallant, it’s good enough for most things.
1 Prepare the line as for a crown. The example shown is four strand, but
the same principles apply for three strand.
