Carrick bend
Knot-tyers love the carrick bend. This is
probably because it’s a good example of a knot
that’s both aesthetically pleasing and highly
functional. It is also extremely secure, yet does not
jam, and only gets stronger when wet. Use it
practically on ships to tie mooring lines together, or
decoratively by extending longways to make a
lanyard, or expanded ‘in the flat’ to make a mat.
1 Put an underhand loop in the end of one line and place it over the other
line.
