               Open carrick bend




               As ever, some knot-tyers just can’t resist adding


               that  extra  turn  to  create  a  ‘new’  knot.  The  open
               carrick  bend  is  similar  to  the  plain  carrick  bend,


               apart  from  the  addition  of  an  extra  turn.  It’s  less
               liable to jam so will be easier to untie, and may be

               slightly stronger. On the other hand, it is bulkier and

               somewhat clumsy-looking.





























                 1  Put an overhand loop in one line (this one has been stopped). Pass the



                other line through the loop, between both parts, and back up through the
                                                           loop.
