               Going up a rope 1: The Prusik hitch




               Mountaineers  use  dozens  of  knots  to  scale


               mountains, but if you’re just after a bit of fun with
               the family, the classic Prusik knot is hard to beat. It


               can also be used to make a cool bottle carrier (here).






















                1  Tie a short length of line into a loop using a double fisherman’s knot or



                 similar. Pass one of the loops through the other to make a girth hitch on

                                                   the climbing rope.
