Quatrefoil
Literally meaning ‘four leaves’, the quatrefoil
stopper is made up of four loops, or ‘rims’. It’s the
next step up from the trefoil-shaped Ashley’s
stopper knot and fills an even larger hole. It can be
used not only to prevent a line pulling through a
hole, but also as a grip to prevent the line slipping
through your hands.
1 Form an overhand loop in the standing part and a bight in the working
end. Pass the end through the loop and under the bight.
