Lanyard knot
The lanyard knot could be used for either
practical or increasingly decorative purposes.
Nowadays, it can be combined with other knots to
hold a set of keys, or it can be tied in a line to create
a rope handrail for a staircase or any other instance
where a handgrip is needed.
1 This knot is for four-strand rope, or four lengths of thin line tied
together with a whipping and a seizing, as shown. If using three-strand
rope, see Step 1.
