               Grommet splice

Rope grommets are ‘endless’ rings made by

splicing rope together. They were used as
masthoops, chest handles and for holding blocks

together. Spliced to a line, they also made very
forgiving rings, with more structural rigidity than a

               conventional soft eye splice.

1 Tease the line apart, allowing at least three times the diameter of the

line per tuck. In this case, three tucks using ⅜in (1cm) line: 3 × ⅜in × 3 =

                                              3⅜in (3 × 1cm × 3 = 9cm).
