Japanese lashing

This is quite similar to the Filipino lashing

although its starting point is quite different. For
additional security, the knot can be started with a

clove hitch instead of the initial loop. This will stop it
sliding along the spar, and will prevent the whole

knot coming undone if one part is worn through.

1 Put a bight in the middle of the line and loop it over the vertical spar.
