               Ichabod knot

Legend has it that this sliding noose was used as a

hangman’s noose at Newcastle jail in Delaware, USA,
and by local farmers to tether cows. It can be used

as a hitch, to a rail or spar, or you can pass the
standing part through the loop and turn it into a

‘running ichabod’, like the running bowline.

1 Put a bight in the end of the line and pass the working end over the

standing part. Then take a turn around both legs of the bight.
