Gibbet knot
A ‘gibbet’ is any device used for public execution,
eg gallows, guillotine or executioner’s block. This
suggests that this knot, like the ichabod, was used
for such purposes, although there is no real
evidence to back this up. The gibbet is very similar
to the ichabod but one may suit a certain type of line
better than another. Try them both and see.
1 Make an overhand loop at the end of the line, then pass the working end
under the standing part.
