Spanish hawser bend
It’s easy to assume that the tighter you tie a knot,
the better it will be. But over-tightening a knot,
while making it more secure, will also weaken the
line. The Spanish hawser bend cleverly takes an
untightened carrick bend and adds some seizings to
give it security. This makes for a stronger, more
streamlined knot.
1 Tie a carrick bend, by making an underhand loop with one line and
placing it over the other line.
