               Spanish hawser bend




               It’s easy to assume that the tighter you tie a knot,


               the  better  it  will  be.  But  over-tightening  a  knot,
               while  making  it  more  secure,  will  also  weaken  the


               line.  The  Spanish  hawser  bend  cleverly  takes  an
               untightened carrick bend and adds some seizings to

               give  it  security.  This  makes  for  a  stronger,  more

               streamlined knot.


























                   1  Tie a carrick bend, by making an underhand loop with one line and


                                            placing it over the other line.
