DMSO is an organic solvent, a transparent liquid with some
unpleasant side effects.
During the application a strong inherent odour is developed through
the skin and breathing, similar to oysters or garlic.
This is not necessarily perceived by yourself, but by your fellow men in
the environment.
The smell disappears after approx. 3 days after the last application.
For all applications it is essential to observe the following: The area on
which the DMSO is to be applied must be absolutely clean. Before
applying DMSO, the area must therefore be thoroughly cleaned with
sterile water.
If there are residues of dirt near the wound, treatment with dimethyl
sulfoxide can have fatal consequences: Through contact with DMSO
the skin loses its protective barrier function. The dirt particles can thus
penetrate deep into the skin and cause severe inflammation and even
blood poisoning.
Absolute cleanliness is mandatory for the external application of
dimethyl sulfoxide!
DMSO is a so-called tractor substance.
Substances which are dissolved in DMSO penetrate the skin deeply
and quickly.
This property is used in medicine.
