1 THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM
The endocannabinoid system is a part of the human nervous system.
It is also called the endogenous cannabinoid system. The begriu describes
"endogenous" processes that take place in the body and are not due to
external influences.
Central components are the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 as well as the
body's own cannabinoids and endocannabinoids.
CB1 receptors are concentrated in the central nervous system,
while CB2 receptors are more evenly distributed throughout the body.
The enzymes involved in this system are responsible for the correct
composition and degradation of the cannabinoids, ensuring optimal interaction
in the endocannabinoid system.
