The weatherboard churches
      were typical of the ‘in
      between the wars’ style and
      give an indication of the
      larger population of that area.

                                             On the west side of the bowling
                                             green on the Mallee Highway is
                                             the commemorative stone for the
                                             original Manangatang State School…
                                             1915. The school area occupied a
                                             large area and the tall sugar gums
                                             still present, indicate the boundaries
                                             of the school yard. Teachers
                                             occupied some of the houses
                                             around the corner in Pioneer Street.
      Note the Canary Island date
      palms in front of the Anglican
      Church ...these too were typical
      of the era and were also
      planted on either side of the
      Catholic church entrance.
