Johnson Scholarship Program (JSP) FY22 June Update Report Gbolade George, JSP Instructional Specialist
This year was marked by the return to brick and mortar learning. Students spent the year trying to transition back into the in-person routines of learning. Activating motivation was the goal this year, attempting to get students back into the habits of success and participation with the Take Stock in Children/Johnson Scholars (TSIC/JS) Program.
2022 Graduating Cohort
We are pleased with the accomplishments of our 124 graduating seniors this year. Fourteen seniors were admitted into the University of Florida, being recipients of the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship. Three seniors were awarded Florida Atlantic University’s Kelly Strul’s Emerging Scholars Scholarship. Many students received other awards such as Florida Bright Future’s Scholarships and local community awards. Moshammet Jarin received this year’s Take Stock in Children’s Leaders for Life Fellowship Award along with going to University of Florida as a Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship recipient. Moshammet is featured in the picture receiving all TSIC/JS’s end of the year awards from Glades Central High School: Perfect Attendance, Highest GPA, Highest Community Service Awards, Graduating Senior, Golden Resume, Golden Essay, and the Top Senior Portfolio.
2022 Postsecondary Selections
The graph below gives the postsecondary choices made by our seniors this year. Traditionally, a majority of our students selected institutions that are close to home. More students have decided to attend four- year University this year in comparison to last year with 48% electing to attend a state college and about 40% attending a Florida University. This represents an increase of 16% for students attending a Florida University when compared to the previous graduating class. A total of 4.3% will be
