Johnson Scholars program report (2)
attending both private and out of state institutions.
Google Classroom
The TSIC/JS Google Classroom continued to be a key communication tool for our program. Students had access to a consistently updated list of over 50 local, private, and national scholarships. Community service was offered in the form of attending mentor workshops, Historically Black College/University (HBCU) College fair, Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) College fair, student resume activity, and “Tell Us Your Story” Activities. Seniors interacted with the online College Readiness Portfolio in the TSIC/JS Google Classroom. The Top Portfolio Award was awarded to the top portfolio of each club school, earning a Target $100 gift award. The overall top winner was recognized at the TSIC graduation, earning a laptop for their personal post-secondary use.
College Readiness
Efforts to get students back in the routine of school and participation with TSIC/JS program included a welcome back event at Forest Hill High School. Students participated in wellness dancing with community entertainment Digital Vibez and were given words of wisdom by motivational speaker, Will Hutcherson. New Student Orientations took place in December, May, and during the summer. Our Senior Workshops took place in three parts, ending with a Senior Summit that helped transition our students into their post-secondary choices and orient them on their Florida Pre-Paid Scholarship. The Virtual THRIVE Wellness series continued this year with focus on self-care facilitated by Winne Bien Aime, mental health specialist.
The Johnson Scholars Program is happy to have on board as the new resource teacher since May 31st, Phara Lissade- Latour. Phara comes to the JSP from John F. Kennedy Middle School, where she served as a guidance counselor as well as the testing coordinator. Her professional career includes working with Title 1 schools and helping students work towards and successfully getting into their post- secondary choices. With 23 years of experience in the School District of Palm Beach County, 19 years being in high schools, the Johnson Scholars Program looks forward to the innovation she will bring in moving our students closer to their hopes and dreams of going to college.
Students continued receiving college and career readiness through our on-site Readiness Clubs, with Pahokee High School becoming the eleventh club school for TSIC/JS. A Club Coach was hired by Johnson Scholars Program to assist with
