  Mentoring
Mentors continued to provide encouragement and emotional support via a hybrid of options including virtual meetings, text messaging, and phone calls. The Take Stock in Children State Office created a proprietary mentoring app that allows mentors and their mentees to continue their mentoring sessions via a safe and supervised environment. Mentor contacts remained at 96.6%, with 453 students meeting with their mentor meeting requirements. There are 424 active mentors with efforts being made to continue recruiting mentors. Community connections as well as school district partnerships will add to mentor recruitment during the summer and fall of 2023. Efforts to increase mentor motivation included Games of Axes night, Quarterly Coffee Talks, and Drive Shack Golf with your Mentee.
Recruitment
Student recruitment this year has taken place throughout the year. Between the fall, spring, and summer recruitment a total of 127 students have been admitted into TSIC/JS. Presently, outreach is occurring with community partners such as local radio stations, school district bridge programs (programs where middle school students can work towards moving up to high school after being behind one or two years), school district service personnel, and other community outlets. These efforts along with continued school based recruitment will ideally bring the expected numbers of 100 or more freshmen, 8th, or 7th graders to the program by December of 2022.
 University of Florida Partnership
Students from the University of Florida’s Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship decided to spend their one week of spring break giving back to TSIC/JS. They spent a week developing engaging activities that connected their shared experiences as first- generation students with our scholars. They presented these activities at Village Academy, Glades Central High School, and Lake Worth High School. Two of the Machen Scholars were able to share their unique experiences as former TSIC students from their respective counties in Florida.
