 July Report 2022
Johnson Scholars program report (5)
Senior Portfolio, mentor and student recruitment, workshops, coordinator’s duties, and program protocols are all discussed and revamped by the entire collaboration. The overall goal is to bring innovation and a unified approach in moving our students towards our expected goals of post-secondary success. More college tours will take place beginning in the fall of 2023 and continuing in the spring. Staff attended the Florida College Access Network (FCAN) conference in May of this year in Orlando, Florida. There, resources were provided that would help ensure our students are in contact with opportunities to gain success in either of the options of enrollment, enlisting, entrepreneurship, and successful employment. The JSP staff attended the AVID Summer Institute where ideas on utilizing the AVID eBinder will help with creating a new interactive Student Portfolio that follows students from 9th grade until graduation.
Budget Update:
Please accept our gratitude for your continued support of our students both through your generous and contagious spirit to help our students reach their postsecondary goal and your financial generosity. Because of your efforts, our students have barriers removed that increase students’ access to success.
ACT, SAT and college application fees were paid and have continued throughout the summer. Additional funds were paid for some students’ tuition or housing seat fee of up to $200. This fee secured the student’s spot at their respective college/university. School Coordinator stipends were paid for both semesters of FY22; two AmeriCorps were paid for with one being paid for less than half of year service. Graduation honor cords and pins were purchased and disbursed to our students. For the back to school celebration, Digital Vibez was contracted through the Johnson Scholars Program. The fall ACT/SAT Boot Camp instructor was paid for through JSP which included 8 sessions of classes. Mr. George, Instructional Specialist for the Johnson Scholars Program attended this year’s FCAN Conference in Orlando, paid for by JSP. Extra duty days were paid by JSP to ensure the resource teacher could develop curriculum and collaborate with TSIC in preparation for FY23. Incentives were included this year for students who were recognized as the top portfolio of their clubs. They each received a financial award in the form of a Target $100 gift card with 12 awards being given in total. All graduating seniors received a book bag that came with a planner to help them on the start of their post-secondary journey. Supplies, meals, and snacks were also procured from the JSP budget. The most immediate goal of JSP is to connect our scholars to Florida college and university campuses during FY23. This will utilize a large portion of the JSP budget moving forward.
