1. December 2022 meeting minutes
The minutes of the Committee’s December 2022 meeting had been circulated and were approved with the following corrections:
• On page 3, the end of the fourth sentence under the heading of Mission Statement should read “planned for December 2023.”
• On page 5, the fourth sentence in the second paragraph under Discovery Project should read, “Florida is the only state in the U.S. presently supporting postsecondary education for students with IDD.”
• On page 8, the first sentence in the third paragraph under the heading of Florida Gulf Coast University should read, “Kitty was asked whether it would make things harder for her department ...”
2. Business arising from the minutes
A question was raised whether there was any follow-up on the 2022 Grantee Perception Report. Would the results be different if the Core grantees were excluded? The Center for Effective Philanthropy researchers said in order to protect the respondents’ confidentiality, they needed a minimum of 5 respondents per group. Separating the Core grantees would affect the sample size.
In December, the Committee’s discussion of King’s linkage report led to a question about whether Eye to Eye can provide evidence of its claim that its Near-Peer Mentoring improves the educational experience and outcomes of its students. King reported that he has spoken with representatives from Eye to Eye about this. Eye to Eye responded that they have done a lot of follow-up work, but they are unable to do double-blind testing. Eye to Eye is also pleased that Bea agreed to join their Board.
3. Update on programs
Reports from the following organizations had been circulated: Elevation Scholars, Florida College Access Network, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Pathways to Education Canada, Take Stock/Johnson Scholars Program and Weingarten Children’s Center.
