  Research indicates college students with disabilities benefit from:
• having paid employment and/or work experiences,
• having the ability to make
decisions and set goals,
• self-determining and self-
advocating, and
• receiving adequate
student support.
Vital elements for college students as they seek employment (Pillette, 2019) include:
ü career-related knowledge, ü work-related experiences, ü job search skills, and
ü disability-related
knowledge/self-advocacy
 PACKS Purpose:
To support college students with disabilities as they transition to post-college employment in their chosen fields of study.
 PACKS:
ü is designed as a four-five-
year pilot program,
ü will be piloted at 1
university,
ü may include collaboration with a local state college,
ü is derived from programs in nursing, teaching, and counseling that use professional mentors and preceptors,
ü incorporates leadership opportunities for students
ü infuses opportunities for students to increase self- awareness, self- advocacy, and self- determination,
ü includes a variety of work experiences during degree program.

Each team includes: 2 Freshmen (univ + st.

• Participate and lead monthly seminars
• Participate as mentees and mentors
• Interact with professionals in their fields
• Create professional networks
• Join professional organizations
• Attend professional conferences
• Have a variety of work experiences
• Develop professional portfolios
• Establish relationships with Career Services,
• Strengthen ties with Access Office
• Learn about available support services
