Program Notes (2)
SUNY Ulster shared the following update about the President’s Challenge Scholarship and the university’s recent change in leadership:
We are proud to recognize and thank Dr. Alan Roberts for his service to SUNY Ulster and, most importantly, our students, as he celebrates his retirement from SUNY Ulster effective July 27, 2022. Since Dr. Roberts’ arrival to the SUNY Ulster community in July 2015, his commitment to student success and community partnerships has been paramount, viewing the challenges facing many of today’s higher education institutions as opportunities. Through the support of our incredible donors and the Ulster Community College Foundation, in 2016, he piloted the President’s Challenge Scholarship program with the Rondout Valley School District, awarding it to 6 students. Today, the program is established in all nine school districts in Ulster County, with approximately 250 high school students having been awarded scholarships. (Johnson Scholarship Foundation is the sponsor of 4 students this year – 23 students total.)
On July 27, Dr. Alison Buckley joined us as the 7th President of SUNY Ulster! We proudly welcome Dr. Buckley to our SUNY Ulster community! During Dr. Buckley’s first week at SUNY Ulster, we were fortunate to have her meet with some of our newest President’s Challenge Scholarship incoming freshmen and leaders and members of SUNY Ulster’s Student Government for PCS Orientation.

Leslie Pendleton, a Senior Director of Development for UF, stopped by the office to visit with Lady and Sharon and present the Foundation with the Golden Gator – “a representation of the gold standard exemplified by our alumni and friends.”
Leslie, who was the Director of the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars program, explained that much of her work in Development will include fundraising for MFOS. They are still searching for her replacement as Director of MFOS and expect to have a decision in the near future. She said that she and Bernie Machen are actually having dinner with each candidate individually so that they can get a better sense of who would be best for the job.
The UF Development Team includes 115 people, plus another more than 185 support people! They are working on the $3 Billion campaign that started in 2014. They are currently at $3.5 Billion which, given the economy for the past 3 years, is really commendable.
The other big news out of UF is they are in a Presidential search being led by two Trustees. Kent Fuchs has agreed to stay on as President until his successor is chosen. Leslie says they hope to have the new President in place by January 2023.
