FAU is the first-institution in the state of FL to charter a national honors society for First-Generation students. These funds will be used to help us launch our inaugural class set to be inducted in April of 2022, which will help us expand in our recognition and involvement of first-generation students.
UMI Programming Expansion

In order to increase the enrollment and impact of our Black and Latino men on campus and involvement in UMI, these funds will be used to develop targeted events and programs with offices such as the Hispanic/Latinx office, Fraternity and Sorority Life Office, and Black and Latino male student organizations. Those events will include but are not limited to Compadres Circle, Black male leadership circles, Latino male leadership circles, Futros Retreats, etc.
Targeted First-Generation Programming

Programs focused on building community and creating a sense of belonging among first- generation students: welcome receptions, First & Proud Bar-b-ques, first-generation hang-outs, career focused field-trips and experiences, game nights, Transfer Student programming (40% of First-gen population), first-generation family programming and support, etc.
Summer First-Generation/Pre-Collegiate Prog

These funds will be used to create programming and support services for our first-generation students who take classes over the summer and also to conduct events and programs with our Upward Bound pre-collegiate program.
