TAKE STOCK/JOHNSON SCHOLARS YEAR-END REPORT (3)
Mrs. Phara Lissade-Latour, Johnson Scholars Resource Teacher, attended a workshop at 10X University. According to Mrs. Latour, the workshop provided her with a valuable understanding of the problem- solving mindset that can be applied to all areas of life. This mindset is particularly important for young adults to cultivate early on in order to achieve success. Additionally, Mrs. Lissade- Latour was able to connect with the 10X Foundation scholarship and establish a relationship that will help more students qualify for the scholarship.
College Readiness
The College and Career Readiness Clubs at our eleven club schools continued engaging students on topics such as resume building, cost of living, and college life. Mrs. Phara Lissade-Latour, Johnson Scholars Resource Teacher, has created a digital eBinder to connect students to College and Career Information, High School Graduation Requirements, Entrepreneurship, and resources on resumes, essays, and FAFSA. Students in grades nine through twelve are provided with a quarterly and yearly timeline of their grade-level roadmap. Mrs. Lissade-Latour offers personalized portfolio feedback to students through the TSICJS Google Classroom. Her extensive experience and commitment to student
success have been invaluable in guiding the TSICJS School Coordinators and the club's team of three AmeriCorps College
Coaches. As a result, 100% of the senior class completed their College and Career Readiness Portfolio.
Community Service in the Clubs
This year, we made an effort to boost student engagement in clubs by assigning each of the eleven club
schools to plan and execute a community service project. Our scholars were given the responsibility of
creating and organizing an activity that would positively affect their school campuses. In February, the
Take Stock in Children/Johnson Scholars Program (TSICJS) supported the implementation of the
community service projects.
Through these experiences, the students had the chance to collaborate,
work in a team, and develop leadership skills. They were able to lead an activity on their campus, which
provided a valuable learning opportunity for themselves and their peers. By implementing these
projects, awareness of the programs increased among the school staff and students.
Acquiring skills
such as teamwork, organization, conflict resolution, and leadership is not only beneficial for students'
future careers and college life, but also for their personal lives. These skills and experiences are
necessary to succeed in college and professional endeavors.
Consequently, the clubs saw an increase of attendance between September 2022 and March 2023 of 8%. Continuation of the community service
projects will take place in the upcoming school year.
