A proposal to increase the monetary amount of Director Discretionary Grants was discussed. These grants have remained at the level of $15,000 per year since they were instituted in 2007. Data provided by FFOG reports that in 2020, surveyed foundations had a median of $25,000 and a mean of $29,000 of board- directed grants allowed per Director per year. In light of the growing Grant Distribution Requirement and the survey data provided by FFOG, the Committee was asked to consider increasing the annual Director Discretionary Grant amount to a maximum of $25,000 per Director per year effective January 1, 2022.
The Committee approved to increase the annual amount of the Director Discretionary Grant to an amount not to exceed $25,000 per year effective January 1, 2022.
The discussion turned to increasing the Matching Grants from $7,500 to a maximum of $10,000 per year. There were questions about whether Consultants and/or all members of the Grant Program Committee would be eligible to make these grants. It was agreed that the policy will be reviewed and brought back to the Committee in September.
The Committee approved the Matching Grants in amounts not to exceed $10,000 per year, effective January 1, 2022.

A list of Letters of Inquiry and responses had been circulated. A question came up about the potential value of investing in Take Stock in Children at the state level. Take Stock in Children is an umbrella organization with independently run affiliates in each Florida county. JSF partners with the Palm Beach County affiliate through the Take Stock in Children/Johnson Scholars Program. This led to a discussion about the number of grant dollars being awarded inside and outside of Florida. A report on this was presented to the Committee some time ago, and there was interest in seeing an updated version of this document.
Staff was directed to update a report depicting the amount of grant dollars being distributed inside and outside of Florida.
