FOUNDATION FOR HEARING RESEARCH, INC. WEINGARTEN CHILDREN’S CENTER
Year 3 Goals Report for the Johnson Scholarship Foundation FYE June 30, 2024 (Year 3)
August 2024
Goal #1 for Year 3*
Goal: BT to serve 65+ families and achieve significant measured improvements in children’s assessed LSL.
• Progress: BT serves 89 families.
Activities for Year 3:
• Activity 1: BT Director of Outreach will maintain and strengthen relationships with cochlear implant centers, audiologists, CSPs and other referrers of families to the program.
• Progress: Our Outreach team maintained continuing contact and relationships with the top eight pediatric cochlear implant and hearing centers in California, county Early Start Providers (CSPs) in six target counties, and selected leading audiologists.
• Activity 2: Maximize co-treatments
• Progress: We continued to offer co-treatment with CSPs, but these were less critical to
CSPs who were able to make home visits again post-COVID.
• Activity 3: Expand insurance coverage to support expansion of BT and work toward
program sustainability.
• Progress: We expanded our in-network status to include Aetna, Blue Shield,
Cigna, Kaiser, Medi-Cal, Tricare, and United Healthcare. We added an insurance processing subcontractor. Reimbursements defray but do not cover 100% of direct program costs.
• Activity 4: Seek additional funding to support more families.
• Progress: Program supporters Galiher and Zellerbach provided increased funding.
Oberkotter program support shifts to general support via Oberkotter Foundation’s endowment gift.
Outcomes/Measurements:
• Measure referral volume and enrollment.
• Received 98 referrals. Enrolled 89 families.
• Track number of co-treatments. • 20
• Measure % of treatment costs covered by insurance. • 8%
