WEINGARTEN CHILDREN’S CENTER REPORT (2) FOUNDATION FOR HEARING RESEARCH, INC.
WEINGARTEN CHILDREN’S CENTER
• Progress: This goal has been met for modules introduced to-date. Based on pilot test data, product design has been enhanced and production scheduled for longer periods. The 63 module minimum viable product line (MVPL) was introduced late in Year 3. We established Help Desk to support users and CSP/coaches and establish best practices for usage and support.
Activities for Year 3:
• Activity 1: Use Canvas LMS to track users’ patterns and performances to refine best practices and communicate those with coaches and families to optimize effectiveness of T2M.
• Progress: Used Canvas LMS to track users’ progress, which was limited by the short portion of the year for which the MVPL was deployed.
• Activity 2: Support families and coaches, particularly focusing on onboarding new users. • Progress: Accomplished. Continued to add families and coaches.
• Activity 3: Incorporate multilingual/multicultural support as those modules are developed and deployed.
• Progress: The team decided to focus on English language modules to optimize module design and usage and support best practices before directing program resources to create modules in other languages. Native Spanish-speaking BabyTalk therapists started to use/test T2M as curriculum with Spanish-speaking families.
Outcomes/Measurement:
• Establish and track user metrics such as number of users, frequency of use, user retention, and feedback via Canvas LMS metrics and online surveys built into T2M.
• Progress: User metrics have been tracked, but usage to-date has been limited by the short period since the MVPL was introduced. Users expressed resistance to online surveys, so we are exploring other forms of user interface to maximize user engagement.
• Establish and track coaching metrics such as frequency of coach review of the T2M metrics of the families they serve and feedback via online surveys built into T2M.
• Progress: Information is preliminary since not enough coach use time has been logged.
Goal #3 for Year 3*
Goal: Expand T2M toward 200 families and 100 CSPs within and beyond California.
• Progress: 12 families, 10 coaches, 3 BT therapists and 10 other LSL professionals
(SLPs, ENT, Audiologists) are currently enrolled to test and use the MVLP. Additional families and coaches are expected to be added as more children at the earliest stages of listening and spoken language enroll and CSPs return to work with the start of the school year.
Activities for Year 3:
• Activity 1: Maintain and expand outreach to CSPs and families in and beyond California.
• Progress: Outreach is currently conducted by the T2M team, along with other FHR
personnel, who are in contact with hearing centers, audiologists, counties, SLPs and others. These efforts have been concentrated within California to-date.
