Communicate in the workplace

               • Noise: Noise is anything that refers to alteration which leads to differences
between what is received and what it sent such as jargon, language barriers,
                   inattention etc.
               • Feedback: Feedback is the response of the receiver. This allows the sender to
know whether the message received is interpreted correctly or not.
               • Context: Context helps to interpret the message correctly.
               • Channel: Channel is a medium that refers to how the communication occurs.

The elements of interpersonal communication are problem solving and decision
making, listening, assertiveness and negotiation. Interpersonal communication at
workplace can be improved by research, knowing the audience, self-evaluation
               and monitoring the expectations.

               5.8 Overcoming language barriers

Language barrier also called as linguistic barrier is the common challenge at many
companies. Many organisations recruit staff who cannot speak local/regional
language. This may result in decrease in productivity as co-workers cannot
               communicate properly.

Ideas to overcome language barriers are:

               • Use plain language
               • Pronounce all words carefully
               • Use repetition
               • Use visual and non-verbal communication to add more information to your
                   message
               • Find a reliable translation service
               • Provide training for employees
               • Be respectful
