how they express and affect human experiences. Prerequisites: FREN 1311 and FREN 1312.
This is a study-abroad course, based in Paris. The course will focus on the study of French and
Francophone culture as it is expressed in the country’s monuments and museums, modes of transport,
eating habits and patterns of daily living and speaking. This course will consist of 45 hours: 4 hours of
pre-departure and 4 hours of post-trip classroom and seminar lecture/discussion/team activity on the
TAMUK campus; and 37+ hours of program-related activities in France including excursions to sites and
museums associated with French and Francophone culture. Students will learn about the cultural,
historical, and physical conditions that influence inhabitants.
Students will learn about the history and culture of Paris through visits to the Carnavalet Museum, the
Eiffel Tower, the Père Lachaise Cemetery, the Louvre, the Palais Garnier and through their walking tours
of the Place de la Bastille, Latin Quarter, and Montmartre. In addition, they will attend a ballet, an
opera, and a recital, and visit the Musée de la Musique and Paris Museum of Modern Art.
Students will keep a daily study log in French of their experiences, of the French words and phrases they
have used and learned, and a reflection on their educational/cultural excursions. Upon return to the
States, students will write a synthesis essay or create an electronic website (or video) in which they
