OUR SCHOOLS STAND UP TO CANCER
Schools across the Trust joined the fight against cancer by raising hundreds of pounds for
Macmillan’s ‘World’s biggest coffee morning’ on 28th September.
The Coppice Academy, Castlebrook High School, Walton Hall Academy, Wolstanton High
School, Seabridge Primary, Blackfriars Academy, The Westleigh School and Brookfields
Special School hosted coffee mornings with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer
Support.
These events provided a fantastic opportunity to teach students the work of the
organisation, as well as the importance of charity, volunteering and ‘giving back’
to the community.
A Seabridge Primary School student commented: “Without fundraising
events like our Macmillan Big Breakfast, so many people would suffer
without the help from their nurses and volunteers. It’s our duty
to help.”
At several schools, the coffee morning was organised and hosted by
students, teaching them skills in hospitality, handling money
and catering, as well as enabling students to practice and
further develop their communication skills.
Walton Hall Academy’s Principal Amanda Cameron said: “All
our students know of someone who has been affected by
cancer and are very eager to support the event.
“The coffee morning was hosted by our students and
provided them with an opportunity to practice their
hospitality and Jamie Oliver home-cooking skills.”
Pupil’s efforts certainly paid off with hundreds of
pounds being raised for the charity, as well as
elevating cancer awareness amongst the students
and wider community.
