Demonstration: Copper oxide has copper but does
not conduct electricity, why?
Aim: To change the chemical composition of copper oxide to
elemental copper.
Chemicals:
• 4 g Copper oxide
• 1.6 g zinc powder
The powders both contain metal but do not conduct electricity, we
must displace the oxygen to get pure copper left over.
Discussion: Explain why the copper oxide powder did not conduct
electricity but the solid copper did?
