9.3.1 Central European Time (CET)
For practical reasons, it is arranged so that here in Denmark we start from a
common time, which also applies further south, and which we call CET (Central
European Time).
9.3.2 The Date Line
As mentioned above, our day starts when the sun is perpendicular to the
meridian, which is 180 degrees opposite the meridian where Bornholm is
o
located, which is 15 E.
This means that for us who are in the area, a new day starts with a new date
o
when the sun is just above 165 E longitude. A new day also means a new date.
You could say there are 2 date lines:
o
- our date line, the 180 opposite meridian from where we are, where our
day starts
- the international date line
9.3.2.1 The international date line
The international date line is a marking
line that on the globe roughly follows the
meridian 180 degrees from Greenwich
through the Pacific Ocean.
0
The date line lies exactly opposite the 0
median, which runs through Greenwich.
When you cross the line, you skip a date
and a day of the week if you travel west.
If you travel east, you add a day.
