Human Performance
2.9.2 Decision-making ability
Humans are generally not good at making rational decisions. We are often
guided by emotions and intuition (this is what makes us human).
When an important decision must be made during a flight, emotions and
intuition are of little use. What you need is a sensible and rational decision-
making process.
Methodology in the decision-making phase is a helpful guide.
Ask yourself: What is the problem?
• Solutions – Consequences – Decision – Implementation
Remember, a good rational decision is:
- Based on awareness and trends, surroundings and development.
- Realistic perception of the situation.
- Good understanding of the problem.
- Thorough analysis of the problem.
- Choosing the best solution among given options.
- Realistic assessment of risks.
