Meteorology

                3.4.7 Microburst

If a plane flies into a so-called microburst, the plane is pushed toward the

                ground.

                Microbursts are invisible.

                The first thing that happens

                when approaching a

                microburst is that the IAS

                (Indicated Airspeed)

                increases, and the plane
                experiences increased

                performance and climbs.

When entering the center of the microburst, the plane is pushed toward the

                ground.

As you move away from the center and exit the microburst, you encounter

strong tailwinds, and the IAS decreases, reducing lift.

One example is PanAm Flight 759, which crashed shortly after takeoff. The
plane was hit by a microburst during a storm. All passengers and crew onboard

                were killed.

Remember to notify air traffic control if you encounter dangerous conditions,

so they can warn other traffic about the conditions.

3.4.8 Wind in relation to flying

It is important for you as a pilot to consider the wind, especially during takeoff

                and landing.

Always remember to check the weather and wind as part of your preparation!
