For the majority of the students, one common denominator amongst all of their different abilities and skill sets is that most end up takingWorld Studies.When seeing the course listed on their schedule, they typically assume it’s some sort of history class.This is actually the fth year that World Studies is being offered to Cascia 6th graders.With the exception of students coming from some sort of immersion program, all students are required to take it. Unlike the common misconception that World Studies is another history course on the schedule,World Studies is actually a course that was designed to introduce Cascia students to the ve
students delve into Chinese which is followed by French and German. By the time
the year is over, they’ve all had the opportunity to discover where their interests lie when it comes to languages. Many students have had some exposure to languages, but not in a situation where the sole purpose is discovery and exploration presented in a way to prepare them for language study.The curriculum is presented in a fun and unique way, making it effortless for the students to connect with at least one of the ve languages. Not only that, they also have the advantage of discovering which language they excel at and have the most success in.
Although language is a key factor in the course, it’s not all we do.The students learn basic language lessons in each language studied throughout the year. Beyond that, they are taught a lot about the culture that surrounds each language.This could include lessons on art, music, food, history, geography and more. Some
