projects the students have participated in are: toga fashion show, god/goddess project, Day of the Dead presentations, art projects, and even puppet theatre. One of my absolute favorite things about teaching the World Studies class is being able to see the students walk into the room excited and relaxed, eager to be there and learn. It certainly makes things easier and more enjoyable for me.
One of the most important things they are learning in class, albeit less obvious, is how to be open-minded and appreciative of different cultures. Once they learn how to do that, learning a new language, which is already a daunting task, comes in a more natural and enjoyable way. They genuinely feel like there is an important purpose to what they are being asked to do.

World Studies class was bene cial to their overall experience in choosing a foreign language, both students had positive reactions. Hunter Hays said: “It was a great experience. Looking at each language and its culture, I felt more prepared to make my decision tostudyLatin.”HarrisonHaysquicklyadded:“Itwas educational and fun at the same time, and getting a little bit of each language made a surprising impact on my decision to choose the language I did, but I also really enjoyed learning all the languages.”
In a world that seems to be getting smaller and smaller, it’s refreshing to see middle school students get excited about languages. Many are surprised at the decision they came to at the end of the year.That’s what the class is all about though; a balance between providing them with information they don’t already have and encouraging them to challenge themselves and look at what they do already know in a new way.

Thanks to the commitment, skills, and talent of Hailey Polson, Isaac Ingram, and Carter Nalley, the Jr. Commandobots now have the #1 ranked robot in the State of Oklahoma.
