Helping Animals
Since my childhood I am very keen on animals. In our family,
we have always had dogs. My parents were teaching me to take
care of my pets. I think that is why I have become a volunteer
for the animal shelters. I started with the easiest thing – some
monetary aid. Granting small amounts of money I felt that I was
still engaged into helping at least one kitten or a puppy. With
time I got a desire to do something bigger, to see these animals
alive, to devote my time and attention to them. I went to the
dogs’ shelter in Yaroslavl named “Kovcheg” (which means “ark”
in Russian).
I was given a 6-month-old puppy to take care of. While walk-
ing with it, I found out that the dog was not so ideally socialized
as I had thought at the beginning. It was afraid of every noise and
was so tiny. After an hour or so the dog started to trust me and
then I understood that I could not leave it and walk it back to the
shelter cage. Thus, little Attica went home together with me. At
the moment the little creature feels great. I am trying to give it
a huge amount of care and tenderness every day.
And I have not stopped visiting the shelter. Now every Satur-
day together with the team of KFC corporate volunteers we have
been searching for the new owners for the animals held there.
We bring food, walk and play with the dogs, teaching them
to walk on a leash, clean the cages and make rounds to check
whether some animals need medical assistance. I am sure that
everyone can be a volunteer. If you feel sad and melancholic or if
you have problems, I recommend you to visit any shelter located
in your town. You will definitely feel better! Playing and walk-
ing with dogs, patting cats, sharing some tasty things with furry
creatures, helping some of them to achieve their target and get
a new home – what can be better?
