Songwriters & Original Songs
Podcast

ou cant have enough good new original music to listen to, but how can you find it? Im
Yfortunate to be around many songwriters each day through many music groups and
personal contacts and on average I hear between 10 and 20 new songs a week, sometimes
many more. These songs never see any light of day although they are really good listens.
I have also noted in discussions over sometime that people often liked to know a little bit
more about the songs and the people that created them. That started me thinking! My mind
wandered to Podcasts
Podcasts are everywhere these days, people like their portability and many listen in cars or
public transport to and from work as well as evening relaxation. Podcast outlets are
everywhere, the big names are there and some lesser known companies have also entered
the Fray. It means you can listen whether you are an apple person, an android one or even a
desktop one, you can listen through Itunes, Google, Spotify, Tune in radio or new fast
growing ones like Stitcher or Deezer and many more.
My solution was to be the middleman and through all my contacts pull together a podcast of
new original music, introduce new artists and their songs and look behind the curtain a little
and see who the artists are and in some cases the inspiration for the songs.
What seems like a simple ideas sometimes explodes in ways you never expect! Once i asked
if there was any interest i received lots and lots of support, offers of songs, of doing segments
being interviewed etc, they suddenly all poured in and i realised very quickly that i would
have a sustainable amount of material.
Technology was the next challenge. Recording quality for a song which can be manipulated
was not good enough for just talking and i had to try many studio set ups before i ironed out
all the problems and got it crisp and clear. Then i had to equalize all songs and discussions
and learn nice clean fade in and out techniques. I am still improving bit by bit.
The last challenge was distribution and this was the most time consuming, setting up
through a main distributor (i use Buzzsprout) and linking it to all the places people listen to
podcasts, thank goodness for my youngest adult son who helped me maneuver through this
maze!
The outcome! Well you can be the judge by listening to it! My view is it is a very
personalized and easy listening insight into songwriters and includes some delightful new
songs. Episode 1 is a pilot, is 60 minutes long and is pretty much just me and new songs and
