Let's restore the church of Gordes
Convinced that preserving Gordes' heritage is everyone's business, a number of local residents founded the association Les Amis de l'église Saint-Firmin de Gordes in 2021, with the aim of res- toring the interior of the church to its former glory. The exterior of the church - its roofs, walls and bell tower - had already benefited from a major restoration project carried out by the commune between 2016 and 2019.
To bring this vast project to a successful conclusion, the asso- ciation has structured its work around three complementary axes:
— Mobilising the people of Gordi, local economic players and public ins-
titutions;
— Raising the funds needed to carry out the most urgent work;
— Seek public and private support for the complete restoration of the
interior, to complement the resources of the association.
A DYNAMIC ALREADY WELL UNDERWAY.
In just four years, the association has managed to rally around a hundred private and corporate donors to its cause, while obtaining grants from the Vaucluse department, the Fondation pour la Sauve- garde de l'Art Français, and a prize awarded by the Vieilles Maisons Françaises association.
In 2024, the church of Saint-Firmin reached a decisive milestone: it was listed as a historic monument by the DRAC (French Ministry of Culture). This major recognition opens the way to substantial State aid, without which full restoration would remain out of reach.
THE FIRST CONCRETE AND EXEMPLARY RESULTS.
Since 2022, the first emergency works have been carried out thanks to this support: the restoration of the Baroque pulpit, which was in imminent danger, the restoration of the two stone holy water fonts, the meticulous removal of the woodwork and the altarpiece in the Saint- Eloi chapel, and a study of the painted decor. The work was entrusted to renowned craftsmen: the Jean-Louis Bouvier workshop for the pulpit, the Tournillon workshop for the woodwork, and Claire Delhumeau for the decorations, under the supervision of Didier Repellin, chief architect of historic monuments.
THE NEXT STAGE OF THE PROJECT: COMPREHENSIVE STUDY AND FUNDRAISING.
The near future will see the launch of an in-depth architectural study, entrusted by the Town Hall to a heritage architect, in order to draw up a master plan for restoring the interior of the church: nature and sequencing of the work, techniques to be used, provisional time- table and budget. This study, which will be decisive for the future of the project, will be entirely funded by the association.
But the main challenge still lies ahead: raising the funds nee- ded to launch the various projects, which will be spread over several years. The total cost is estimated at over two million euros.
A CIVIC COMMITMENT WITH TAX BENEFITS.
Supporting the restoration of Saint-Firmin's church means taking part in a collective adventure in citizenship and heritage. And this commitment entitles you to significant tax benefits: a donation of €100 costs just €34 for an individual subject to income tax, €40 for a company, and €25 for a person subject to property wealth tax.

Restaurons l'église de Gordes.
Convaincus que la préservation du patrimoine de Gordes est l’affaire de tous, plusieurs habitants du village ont fondé en 2021 l’association Les Amis de l’église Saint-Firmin de Gordes, avec pour ambition de redonner tout son éclat à l’intérieur de l’église, dont l’extérieur — toitures, murs et clocher — avait déjà bénéficié d’une importante restauration conduite par la commune entre 2016 et 2019.
Pour mener à bien ce vaste chantier, l’association a structuré son action autour de trois axes complémentaires :
— Mobiliser les Gordiens, les acteurs économiques du territoire et les
institutions publiques ;
— Collecter les fonds nécessaires à la réalisation des travaux les plus
urgents ;
— Rechercher des soutiens publics et privés permettant d’engager
une restauration complète de l’intérieur, en complément des ressources de l’association.
UNE DYNAMIQUE DÉJÀ BIEN ENGAGÉE.
En seulement quatre ans, l’association a su rallier à sa cause une centaine de donateurs particuliers et d’entreprises, tout en obtenant des subventions du département de Vaucluse, de la Fondation pour la Sauvegarde de l’Art Français, ainsi qu’un prix attribué par l’association Vieilles Maisons Françaises.
En 2024, l’église Saint-Firmin a franchi une étape décisive : son inscription au titre des monuments historiques par la DRAC (Ministère de la Culture). Une reconnaissance majeure, qui ouvre désormais la voie à des aides substantielles de l’État, sans lesquelles la restauration intégrale demeurerait hors de portée.
DES PREMIERS RÉSULTATS CONCRETS ET EXEMPLAIRES.
Dès 2022, les premiers travaux d’urgence ont pu être réalisés grâce à ces soutiens : la restauration de la chaire baroque, en péril imminent, celle des deux bénitiers en pierre, la dépose minutieuse des boiseries et du retable de la chapelle Saint-Éloi, ainsi qu’une étude des décors peints. Ces interventions ont été confiées à des artisans d’art de renommée : l’atelier Jean-Louis Bouvier pour la chaire, l’atelier Tournillon pour les menuiseries, et Claire Delhumeau pour les décors, sous la direction de Didier Repellin, architecte en chef des monuments historiques.
LA SUITE DU PROJET : ÉTUDE GLOBALE ET LEVÉE DE FONDS.
L’avenir proche verra le lancement d’une étude architecturale approfondie, confiée par la mairie à un architecte du patrimoine, afin d’établir un plan directeur de restauration de l’intérieur de l’église : nature et séquençage des travaux, techniques à employer, calendrier prévisionnel, enveloppe budgétaire. Cette étude, décisive pour l’avenir du projet, sera entièrement financée par l’association.
Mais l’enjeu principal reste à venir : réunir les fonds néces- saires au lancement des différents chantiers qui s’échelonneront sur plusieurs années. Le coût global est estimé à plus de deux millions d’euros.
UN ENGAGEMENT CITOYEN ET FISCALEMENT AVANTAGEUX.
Soutenir la restauration de l’église Saint-Firmin, c’est participer à une aventure collective, citoyenne et patrimoniale. Et cet engagement donne droit à des avantages fiscaux significatifs : un don de 100 € ne revient qu’à 34 € pour un particulier imposé sur le revenu, 40 € pour une entreprise, et 25 € pour une personne assujettie à l’impôt sur la fortune immobilière.
